Itinerary Day 2

Loch ard gorge (Port campbell NP) 

Port Campbell National Park , the Twelve Apostles’ and Loch Ard Gorge. Students are treated to a beautiful vista of towering cliffs, sparkling blue-green sea.

Mount Eccles National Park, 6120 ha in size, stands at the western edge of the volcanic plains that stretch from Melbourne to Port Fairy, extending northwards to Hamilton and Ararat. Geological features to be seen are extensive lava flows, lava caves, scoria cones and crater lakes.

Day two itinerary includes

Port Campbell National Park, 'The Twelve Apostles' – are huge stone pillars looming out of the surf. The dramatic and imposing limestone cliffs tower up to 70 meters and form the backdrop to the Apostles. The tallest of the rock pillars is 45 meters high.

Loch Ard Gorge, visitors are treated to a beautiful vista of towering cliffs, sparkling blue-green sea and a small, sandy beach. It’s hard to imagine that the drama of one of Victoria’s most tragic shipwrecks, was played out at this very spot more than 120 years ago, giving a name to the gorge.

Mt Eccles is home to a colony of koalas that is easily viewed.

Just south of Dunkeld, we gain our first views of the Grampians jutting above the flat western plains.
